Our first love

Our first love

The wonder of birth,
will never cease to amaze me.
With one gasp of air,
we become one with life –
the first of many choices,
we will ever make on earth.

We breathe,
because we love,
and because we love,
we breathe.

Love and life are connected,
more than we ever realize.
Without life we cannot love,
and without love,
we cannot live our life.

If love is so important,
so vital in our circle of life,
why then do we love so little?

We put ourselves first,
without considering,
that an empty world,
leaves us desolate.

When we are born,
we love our mother.
Without that love,
we die.
Why then do we believe,
we can live alone,
for the rest of our life?

A life without people,
is an empty life,
for only through people,
we can learn,
the most selfless love,
that has ever existed.

To learn the depths of love,
we must be willing,
to look beyond ourselves.
For in the beginning of life,
we did not love ourselves first,
NO,
our first love,
belonged to our mother.

For most of my life, I was bullied, emotionally abused, rejected, and I had/have so little friends that I believed that I was better off alone. This year nearly took my life, not by COVID-19 but by loneliness. When one is rejected and alone for so long, one can get the idea that life alone is the only option. That is why I always said to myself, “It is me and God against the world”, believing there was nobody out there for me. But during the pandemic, I have learned that this is a lie. Humans are created to live together in whatever shape or size that is. The walls are slowly coming down around me and even though I am still finding my place in this life, the growth I have experienced was necessary and so important. That was the sole reason for this poem. Nobody is supposed to live a life alone! No one! And yet, there are so many, like me, who face this struggle every day. I am so blessed with my immediate family but there are those who have no one! Let us take the coming holiday season to look out for those who are alone! Give them something to look forward to. Give them love, a place at your table, a place in your life. You have no idea what it will mean to them! xox Gineke.

Chamber of Secrets

Chamber of Secrets

My heart is chamber of secrets,
carefully constructed throughout my life,
where each chamber is a home,
where either wanted or unwanted visitors,
make a permanent living.

My mind is a fortress of remembrance,
where thick high walls protect the thoughts,
entering through an open gate,
whose key I lost a long time ago,
when life was a simple innocent society.

My appearance is a prison of fear,
where my soul lives an isolated life,
in the deepest dungeons of my own recollection,
and my eyes scan the streets for shadows,
waiting around the corner to attack me.

My heart is a chamber of secrets,
and I am desperately trying to hide them all,
in order to be accepted in the normality of life,
where love is a possibility instead of a dream,
and friendship a probability I believe in.

A poem for Valentine’s day

Valentine’s day

Commercialized is the day of love,
where the gift means more,
than the thought behind it.
The size of the diamond,
overrules the look of adoration,
and the amount of roses,
are more important,
than the heart that gave them.

Yet on this day,
we strive for more than ourselves.
In a moment of pure affection,
we try to show our heart,
in the greatest form we know.
With our love in our hands,
we conquer our fears,
and take a leap,
hoping we land on soft pillows,
instead of a bed of nails.

Once a year,
we offer ourselves to someone,
sacrificing all we hold dear,
in order to show how we feel.
And even though I still wonder,
why we cannot do this all year long,
I secretly adore the idea,
of being someone’s valentine,
even if it is just that one day a year.

Will you be my valentine today?

Valentine's day

This is joy to me!

This is joy to me!

In the deepest darkness,
joy is that little light,
pushing away the pain,
so you can move your feet.
Joy is walking on water,
where the deep black depth,
is far underneath you,
even though the waters,
still roar all around you.
Joy is standing on a mountain top,
where the difficult journey is behind you,
and the view reminds you,
that the impossible was possible after all.
Joy is the rope,
that keeps you from falling down.
Joy is the focus,
that keeps you moving forward,
for dreaming with joy,
instills a deep hope,
that gives you wings to fly,
in the greatest storms.
Born out of love,
joy is the light that feeds us,
with happy memories from the past.
Joy shows us,
that new experiences,
however difficult they are,
can be fun,
in the presence of loving friends.
Joy is an arm around your shoulder,
it is a tissue when you grieve.
Joy in the face of love,
is all we really need,
in a world filled with darkness,
this is joy to me!

This is joy to me!
