A poem for Valentine’s day

Valentine’s day

Commercialized is the day of love,
where the gift means more,
than the thought behind it.
The size of the diamond,
overrules the look of adoration,
and the amount of roses,
are more important,
than the heart that gave them.

Yet on this day,
we strive for more than ourselves.
In a moment of pure affection,
we try to show our heart,
in the greatest form we know.
With our love in our hands,
we conquer our fears,
and take a leap,
hoping we land on soft pillows,
instead of a bed of nails.

Once a year,
we offer ourselves to someone,
sacrificing all we hold dear,
in order to show how we feel.
And even though I still wonder,
why we cannot do this all year long,
I secretly adore the idea,
of being someone’s valentine,
even if it is just that one day a year.

Will you be my valentine today?

Valentine's day
